Award winning Oakville REALTOR®/Broker rejoins the CENTURY 21 Canada family

November 2024, Oakville – The CENTURY 21 Canada network welcomed back one of its star members this month – Shireen Preksta of Oakville, ON.

Former Broker/owner of CENTURY 21 Dreams Inc. in Oakville, Shireen sold her Brokerage in 2022 in pursuit of new opportunities. Shireen’s desire to return to her former brand was sparked by her familiarity with the industry-leading systems and technology. She is once more a member of the 11,000 strong network in Canada, now joining CENTURY 21 Miller Real Estate Ltd. in Oakville, ON.

“It was always important to me to be a part of a global brand,” Shireen explains. “With CENTURY 21 Canada, I get the strong global brand recognition alongside a family-like culture, providing the ideal environment for the next chapter of my career. Since coming back I’ve had the chance to familiarize myself with the latest technology and tools that C21 provides.”

Shireen, the owner of her Brokerage since 2004, was focused on serving the Oakville, Burlington and GTA markets, offering a welcoming environment and personalized service for everyone who walked through the door. It’s that same people-first attitude that led her to choose CENTURY 21 Miller. “I love my local community, and I look forward to helping people with all of their real estate needs. I want to continue to give back and make an impact on the community I am proud to be a part of.”

Shireen has dedicated her time to supporting Oakville through various charitable initiatives, including Easter Seals (CENTURY 21 Canada’s official charitable partner), local police and fire department charities, and the Dog Guides of Canada where she has been helping to train future service dogs since 2000.

“Shireen is an exemplary member of our C21 family, and we are so proud to have her back,” says Todd Shyiak, Executive Vice President of CENTURY 21 Canada. “It speaks to the value we provide our agents that after exploring the landscape of the industry, anyone can see that C21 is where owners and agents will find the right balance of tools, reputation and the personal support we pride ourselves on. We know Shireen will always go above and beyond to meet the needs of her clients, and that’s the people-first philosophy that we encourage throughout our network.”

As a member of the CENTURY 21 Canada network from 2004-2022, Shireen was a consistent CENTURION® award winner, and currently serves on various real estate board committees, including serving as a past director with Oakville, Milton and District Real Estate Board to advocate for professionalism in the real estate industry.

“This being my 40th year in the industry, it feels great to be back!” says Shireen.

CENTURY 21 Canada Smashes Fundraising Target In 2022 For The C21 Kids To Camp Program To Help Send Kids With Disabilities To Easter Seals Camps

In many ways, 2022 was a transition year. The COVID-19 pandemic seems to have come under control as restrictions were slowly lifted across many jurisdictions in Canada, but there were still many uncertainties as reflected in the state of the economy, continuing supply chain issues, rising prices, hybrid work arrangements, and myriad other factors. Despite these turbulent times, one thing nevertheless remained certain: the unwavering commitment of CENTURY 21 Canada and its Companies and Network members to Easter Seals and the C21 Kids to Camp program, which aims to help kids with disabilities attend Easter Seals’ accessible and inclusive camps across the country.

For over 40 years, CENTURY 21 Canada—its Network members, families, friends and clients—have shown a lot of love for Easter Seals. Since 1979, CENTURY 21 Canada has raised more than $13.4 million for Easter Seals to provide the opportunity for more than 6,400 kids and youth with disabilities to attend and enjoy the transformative experiences and magic of Easter Seals camps over the years. Uncertainties notwithstanding, CENTURY 21 Companies and Network members across Canada proved their mettle yet again in 2022 and demonstrated why they are the gold standard in the real estate industry, raising $945,176 for Easter Seals and the C21 Kids to Camp Program. This incredible amount will give approximately 450 more kids and youth the opportunity to attend Easter Seals camps, bringing the total number of children and youth to have benefitted from CENTURY 21 Canada’s generosity to over 6,900 and increasing the overall total donated by CENTURY 21 to over $14.3M!

While the total raised by CENTURY 21 in 2022 is just shy of the all-time high annual record of $946,044 set in 2019, it still far surpassed the company’s initial 2022 fundraising target of $750,000 – a testament to the overwhelming commitment of CENTURY 21 Companies and Network members to helping boost the well-being and opportunities for children and youth with disabilities, and to promoting strong and inclusive communities.

“We’ve got a really great partner in Easter Seals and I am so proud that our network recognizes how important it is to give back,” says Martin Charlwood, President and CEO of CENTURY 21 Canada. “We’ve been fortunate to have a strong real estate market for the past couple of years, and that’s meant a lot of success for our offices and agents. And with that success comes a responsibility to give back in some way, and Easter Seals is a great cause. We look forward to working with them for many years to come.”
– Martin Charlwood, President and CEO, CENTURY 21 Canada

“We are absolutely astounded by these incredible results. Throughout the years, CENTURY 21 Canada, its Companies and Network members have proven time and again their commitment to Easter Seals and to kids and families with disabilities. As we celebrated Easter Seals’ 100th anniversary in Canada last year and reflected on our organization’s accomplishments and the innumerable lives that have been positively changed in the last century, we are acutely aware that these impacts would not have been possible without the steadfast support of stakeholders, donors, and partners like CENTURY 21 Canada,” says Dave Starrett, President and CEO of Easter Seals Canada. “Support and investments from CENTURY 21 Canada have helped made Easter Seals camps what they are today: the best of their kind in the world. We thank CENTURY 21 Canada, its Companies and Network members for their continued philanthropy and support of Easter Seals, and we look forward to working together for the next 100 years to make a positive difference in the lives of even more children, youth and families living with disabilities.”

Forty-eight CENTURY 21 Companies and hundreds of CENTURY 21 Network members across Canada contributed to the remarkable success of the 2022 C21 Kids to Camp campaign through their donations and fundraising efforts in 2022, and 89 of the CENTURY 21 Network members received the C21 Kids to Camp Club Member Award and Golden Heart Award for 2022 for their outstanding generosity – having each donated and/or raised $2,100 or more for the program. The list of the 10 CENTURY 21 Companies that raised the most funds for the Kids to Camp program in 2022 is as follows:

CENTURY 21 Broker Vanessa Oake Hogan named to Business Hall of Fame

Peterborough, O.N. (June 2022) – CENTURY 21 United Realty Inc. owner Vanessa Oake Hogan was named to the 2022 Junior Achievement Hall of Fame of Northern and Eastern Ontario Business. The 7th annual ceremony recognized Peterborough’s exceptional business leaders, and with many successful years as a Broker under her belt, Oake Hogan is the perfect addition.

“When I was attending University I would come home to Peterborough for the summer months and work at the office doing reception.  I always loved coming to the office.  I enjoyed learning about the business, working with dad and meeting all of the agents.  It was such a fun group of people.” Oake Hogan says. Carl Oake began the brokerage (which was one of the first CENTURY 21 Canada franchises) in 1977, and in 2016 he began the process of passing the torch to his eldest daughter. Vanessa Oake Hogan acquired her real estate license in 2013, and after waiting a few years for the timing to be right for her family, she felt ready to follow in his footsteps

“Once my kids were a little more independent, the time was right and it was an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up,” Oake Hogan says of her decision to take the reigns of CENTURY 21 United Realty Inc. “This was my father’s business that I grew up around, I was really attached to it. I wanted to carry on what he already started.” Oake Hogan says her father passed on his drive to succeed and she has continued a legacy of excellence, consistently placing on annual rankings within the Century 21 Global system, most recently as the #14 Office in Canada by production, and the #20 Office on the GLOBAL 21 list by the same metrics for 2021. Additionally, Carl Oake was inducted into the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame in 2018, and with Oake Hogan joining him, it marks the first time a father-daughter duo has received the distinction.

But it’s not just her business’s accolades that have earned Oake Hogan a spot in the Hall of Fame, community initiatives are also a large focus. The Carl Oake Rotary Swim is an annual fixture at the Peterborough YMCA, a day when teams and individuals dress in their wildest costumes and swim laps in support of CENTURY 21 Canada’s charitable partner Easter Seals, as well as other local causes. Oake Hogan currently co-chair’s the event and brought it back to the YMCA this year, surpassing their initial fundraising goal for a grand total of $50,000.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Oake Hogan is looking to the future of her company and its agents. “Providing valuable services and support to our agents is our first priority.  We are also working on growing our team with both new and experienced agents.  The official awards ceremony for the Junior Achievement of Northern and Eastern Ontario Hall of Fame took place on May 26th.

Veteran Real Estate Broker Sees Strength and Value in Calgary Market

George Bamber has seen the highs and lows during his 35-year career

In 35-plus years in Calgary’s real estate industry, George Bamber has witnessed market highs, market lows … and everything in between.

With three decades of business experience and customer trust, George Bamber, the owner/broker of Century 21 Bamber Realty, is confident in the continued strength of Calgary and Alberta’s economy. “Calgary real estate has been undervalued for so long and while we may see a bit of a dip in momentum after coming off a record sales year, the strength of Alberta — especially in oil and gas and with continued diversification — is going to mean net in-migration. Alberta is going to be the place to be.”

Bamber expects his real estate company — the largest Century 21 office in Alberta and one of Canada’s largest in overall volume — to continue to grow substantially in 2022. In the first three months of this year, his office had 1,000 sales throughout the Calgary region, including Springbank, Bragg Creek, Okotoks and Airdrie, for homes from $130,000 to $8 million. In 2021, Bamber Realty had 2,800 sales with a value of $1.6 billion.

While increasing interest rates may take some potential homebuyers out of the market to save more money before buying a home or to look for a potential dip in prices, Bamber says Calgary continues to be an affordable place to buy, especially in the apartment condo realm where prices in many cases are below replacement value. He is hoping this year for a more balanced market that will be good for both buyers and sellers as opposed to 2021, where there were often multiple bids on a limited amount of inventory.

“Hopefully it will be a year when buyers don’t have to purchase the first home they see,” says Bamber. “Buyers are doing their research online and through various social media tools prior to engaging with a professional realtor,” says Bamber. “At that point, it gets down to our expert knowledge and professionalism from start to finish.” It’s important to have an experienced agent who can move as quickly as the market by using all their professional tools, from on-the-spot market evaluations to constant communication, negotiating competing offers and taking a buyer or seller to agreement completion, he adds.

In more than three decades, Bamber Realty has grown while retaining its community roots. It’s still at its original 17th Avenue S.W. location — even with the same phone number. And that community connection sees individual real estate agents supporting multiple local charities while Bamber Realty’s major initiative involves Century 21’s commitment to Easter Seals, helping Calgary children with disabilities attend Camp Horizon.

Inspirational Easter Seals Fundraisers

If you ever want to see how far C21-ers will go to raise money for Easter Seals, all you have to do is look up! Every year in cities across the country, C21 members take part in DropZone, the rare opportunity to rappel down a skyscraper. It’s not for the faint of heart, but for dedicated fundraisers like Mir Khan, CENTURY 21 AAA Realty Inc., it’s a unique way to give back.

“Being a proud member of CENTURY 21 Canada, giving back to our community is absolutely necessary!” says Mir, who participates in Drop Zone every year, rappelling down the 28-floor Metrotown Tower in Burnaby, BC. “I was ecstatic to raise my goal. Years ago, I had the privilege to hang out with the Kids at the Squamish Easter Seals campsite and I will never forget how much Camp meant to those kids. At the site they have a memorial to campers who have unfortunately passed away, and for those kids, their time at camp was the best time of their lives. I’m always going to strive to help this cause, just to be a tiny part of that.”

How you can help

If you prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground, there are still dozens of ways to get out in your community and raise funds. From Battles of the Bands to Date Auctions to Wine Tastings, there is no shortage of events to bring folks together (in-person and virtually!) and contribute to a great cause. CENTURY 21 B.J. Roth broke records when they raised $60,000 at the Annual Showcase of Celebrities Golf Tournament at the Bear Creek Golf Club in Barrie, ON, where the 180 golfers who participated all helped Easter Seals purchase mobility equipment for kids in their community and support kids living with disabilities.

If the deadlines for Easter Seals donations are fast approaching, it’s never too late to organize holiday events, gift drives or participate in the Closing Gifts for Kids Program, where for every purchase or sale of a property, Network members commit to donating $21 to Easter Seals in their client’s name. The Annual JC Anderson Memorial Golf Tournament Raised $110,000 for Easter Seals Alberta

September 20, 2021 – CENTURY 21 Foothills Real Estate hosted the JC Anderson Memorial Golf Tournament in Foothills, AB. This annual event proved to be another successful fundraiser, raising $110,000 for Easter Seals Alberta, helping many children living with disabilities and medical conditions.

The 78 golfers started the day at the Sirocco Golf and Country Club, a local course with unique challenges and unparalleled beauty that winds its way through the Pine Creek Valley. After the tournament, the golfers, family, friends, and supporters enjoyed dinner and an auction hosted by Tiffany Gordon, daughter of CENTURY 21 Foothills Real Estate owner and manager, Blair and Beverly Gordon. Tiffany is a CPGA golf professional and was very instrumental in the success of this event.

The ≈ was founded in support of the late JC’s vision to ensure kids with disabilities had a place to play and belong, no matter what their diagnosis. This annual fundraiser provides an opportunity for them to attend Easter Seals Camp Horizon, a one-of-a-kind magical place that empowers them to reach their full potential. “Even though the camp is not open for the second year in a row because of COVID-19, we managed to raise awareness for this important cause and attract people that gave generously,” says Blair.

CENTURY 21 Foothills has been a big supporter of Easter Seals Alberta over the years. Their numerous successful fundraising events and the majority of their over 50 agents across six offices in the Foothills area donating $21 per deal, earned them the #2 C21 Easter Seals fundraising company in 2019.

Thanks to their unstoppable effort, over $50,000 was raised for Easter Seals children and youth in Ontario, surpassing their initial goal.

“We love supporting Easter Seals year after year,” says Theresa Kerr of CENTURY 21 BJ Roth in Barrie, Ontario. “Even with all of us separated physically it was important that we came together in some way to support these kids and provide what we can for them.”

All the funds raised through the Virtual Challenge will help purchase this urgently needed equipment to help Easter Seals children and youth make the most of their abilities and live their lives to the fullest.

A special thank you to all the CENTURY 21 Canada members and offices that contributed their time and fundraising efforts in support of Easter Seals Ontario. Five different offices contributed to this challenge:
