CENTURY 21 Canada Broker Recognized for Decades of Giving Back to His Community

Red Deer, AB (April 2023) – Chosen from thousands of REALTORS® across the country, the 2023 Canadian REALTORS Care® Award has been awarded to Dale Devereux, owner of CENTURY 21 Maximum in Red Deer.

For the past eight years, this award created by the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) has recognized REALTORS® that have demonstrated a commitment to bettering their communities and developed a consistent record of giving back. Dale Devereux has gone above and beyond in Red Deer, finding cause after cause to which he has committed his time and effort, and in doing so, has improved his town for the better.

“It began nearly 30 years ago, when I joined what was then called the ‘Friends of Youth’ in Red Deer,” explains Dale of how he got started in community involvement. “We started a lot of programs, we helped build a wing in our Children’s Library, started a ‘Just Say No’ to drugs program that became huge. When I first sold 100 houses as a new agent, I donated 100 turkey dinners to the food bank to feed local families at Christmas. I thought it would only be for one year, but that became five, and the next thing you know, it’s 25 years later.”

Dale’s passion for giving back never let up as his career progressed, finding multiple initiatives to help throughout the years. He considers his involvement in getting a Ronald McDonald House in Red Deer to be a highlight of his philanthropic work. “I was able to find them a piece of land close to the hospital, and now it provides parents who bring their children in for medical treatment a place to stay for only $13 a night. It gives them time with their kids and takes a lot of stress off of them, so it’s a big thing for all of us.”

And although Dale will sometimes gain a new client through his charity work, he’s clear that his reasons for giving back to his community go far beyond business. “It’s really not about gaining more clients for us, that’s not why we do it,” he says. “We took on these projects because it’s what we wanted to do, it’s what’s important to us. Some people may want to work with us because of it, and I believe that good things come to people who do good, but it’s never about business first.”

The REALTORS Care® Award is being awarded to Dale after a nomination from his daughter, Tara, who is also an owner of CENTURY 21 Maximum. Looking ahead, Dale has no plans to stop anytime soon. “There’s a lot more that I would like to do. There’s so many people out there that need help, it’s so critical now that people do what they can. Imagine if none of us did anything, just sat on our hands and watched – that would be terrible.”

Dale will be recognized at CREA’s annual general meeting, where he will receive a $5000 cheque to be given to the charity of his choice on behalf of REALTORS® everywhere. “It’s a huge honour to be chosen out of the whole network of REALTORS® in Canada. It’s a big part of their platform to show people across Canada what our industry can do because it’s massive, and it means a lot to me to be this year’s face of it.”

Dale’s achievement was recognized at the CREA annual general meeting on April 18, 2023.

Dale Devereaux’s 24th Annual ‘Feed A Family’ Drive

December 16, 2021 – Dale Devereaux, Broker and Owner of Century 21 Maximum in Red Deer, AB, wrapped up the 24th annual ‘Feed a Family’ campaign. 247 turkey and ham dinners (with all the trimmings) were donated to the Red Deer District Food Bank which will feed about 1,000 people and help central Albertans enjoy the holiday season.

24 years ago, Dale started this campaign by donating over 100 turkeys to the food bank based on the number of houses he sold that year. With the need for donations continuously growing, they invited customers and friends to help and now they have fed 27,500 people.

Due to increased food prices, low product stock and COVID benefits running out, the food bank has seen an increased demand for help this year. “The food bank has averaged 40% more clients month over month since April,” says Mitch Thomson, Executive Director of Red Deer District Food Bank. “Normally 25-59 families a day come in for emergency food hampers. That has climbed to 68-75 hampers.”

“With our community in need, I am happy to be able to able to give back,” Dale says. “I think it’s a very special moment to have a traditional Christmas meal for a lot of families.” Dale plans to make the 25th annual ‘Feed A Family’ drive, next year, the biggest one yet to help even more central Albertans during the holiday season.

Thank you to Dale, the CENTURY 21 Maximum team, and all the donators who helped provide a Christmas meal to those in need and continue to make a difference in their community.

CENTURY 21 Advantage Celebrates 110 Years in Real Estate

Owner celebrates anniversary with new office downtown

March 15, 2021— Red Deer – With 110 years in real estate, CENTURY 21 Advantage in Red Deer, Alberta is celebrating its deep roots within the community. Owner Patrick Galesloot hopes to honour the past while growing his company to meet modern needs. “Our goal is to connect with the community in a new way,” he says.

To kick off their 110th year in real estate, CENTURY 21 Advantage moved into a new office space. The locally owned building, Century Centre- formerly the Eaton Centre building- is a heritage building in the heart of downtown Red Deer.

The new space is, in part, to recognize the central role real estate has played in the company’s history. In 1911, local businessman W.J. Botterill opened his first office to take advantage of Central Alberta’s impending real estate boom. With immediate success, Botterill partnered with two associates to form the real estate company Latimer, Botterill, and Hill. The office continued its success and growth throughout the years, changing owners as needed and, in 1976, joined the then young and quickly growing CENTURY 21 brand.

Galesloot has owned the company since 2009, buying the company from his parents, although he’d never imagined following their footsteps into real estate. After graduating university with a Bachelor of Commerce with a specialization in Marketing, Galesloot began his career in the restaurant industry. He realized this work wasn’t his passion, and when his parents suggested real estate, he found his true calling.

In 2002, Galesloot became a licensed REALTOR®, before becoming the owner and broker of record of CENTURY 21 Advantage in 2009. He continuously builds upon the company’s long-founded success by keeping their focus on what they love to do – helping people buy and sell real estate. “Since joining the C21 family it has been nothing short of amazing,” says Patrick.

Their new location in the revitalized downtown area is the newest chapter of the storied business. The vibrant and full of character office will house the 23 commercial and residential agents once COVID safety measures allow.

“When clients come in, we get lots of positive feedback on how the longstanding-building has been maintained,” says Co-Owner De Galesloot. “We take pride in supporting locally sourced, supported and operated businesses to meet all of our business needs. This building and move are exactly what we wanted when we chose a new spot.”

CENTURY 21 Advantage is proud to be locally owned, locally operated and Red Deer-focused and is excited to continue providing the gold standard service for the next 100 years to come.
