Gander

Newfoundland and Labrador

Gander is a town found on the island of Newfoundland in the Newfoundland and Labrador province. It sits along the shores of Gander Lake and is only about 40km south of Gander Bay.

The Gander International Airport used to be a main stop for aircraft that were crossing the Atlantic and given the importance of air travel to the town, many of the streets bear the names of famous flyers. Some of these include Amelia Earhart, Chuck Yeager, and Charles Lindbergh.

The major industries powering the economy of Gander include transportation, communications, defence, and public administration. Tourism has become more important to the area in recent years, as well. The city currently has a shortage of employees in the service and hospitality fields, as well as construction. Gander is also working with aerospace manufacturing companies in the hopes to bring more jobs to the city.
