New Glasgow is a Nova Scotian city right along the East River of Pictou. Founded in 1776 and later incorporated in 1875, the population of the town including the metropolitan area goes from 9,000 to almost 36,000.

The main employers include Aberdeen Hospital, Sobeys headquarters, and a Michelin tire plant located in Ganton. The city is considered the region’s commercial hub, and features a range of chain stores.
