Grand Falls-Windsor is a small city found near the centre of the island of Newfoundland in the Newfoundland and Labrador province. The population is approximately 13,800, according to the 2021 census.

The city was incorporated in 1991. It wasn’t incorporated until the 90s because it used to be two towns—Grand Falls and Windsor. When these two towns amalgamated, the new city was incorporated.

Central Health is the largest employer in Grand Falls-Windsor. In the past, the local paper mill was the second-largest employer, but it shut down more than a decade ago. Tourism has started to become a larger part of the economy. One of the major events in the city, the annual Exploits Valley Salmon Festival, tends to draw a lot of people each July.

What You Can See and Do in Grand Falls-Windsor

You will find a lot of fun outdoor activities in and around the city. You could visit Church Road Park for a picnic, or head to the Corduroy Brook Nature Trail to take a pleasant walk. Gorge Park is a popular place to visit, too.

You can find plenty of rivers and lakes in the area around the city, too, which are great for boating and fishing. Salmon fishing is excellent on the Exploit River. If you like fishing or just learning about nature, consider heading to the Salmonid Interpretation Centre. It features exhibits regarding the habitat, biology, and ecology of the Atlantic Salmon. The centre even features a gift shop and a restaurant.

Some of the other places you might want to visit include Grand Falls Golf Club and Exploits Golf Facility, which is a driving range. If you want to try something a little different, consider Glow to the Extreme, an indoor miniature golf course. It is a blacklight course with 18 holes. It is sure to be a great experience for the kids.

During the winter months, you might want to snowmobile, snowshoe, or go cross-country skiing. You could also take in a show at the Queen Street Dinner Theatre, which offers performances during an eight-week summer run, as well as a March concert, and a series of shows at Christmas.

Grand Falls-Windsor has two main communities. Grand Falls is bordered by the Trans-Canada Highway to the north and the Exploits River to the south. Windsor is on the northern side of the Trans-Canada Highway. Buyers will find that many of the properties here are still very affordable.
