Red Deer is located in Central Alberta, between Calgary and Edmonton along the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and the Red Deer River. The population of the city, which is poised to continue growing and developing, is just over 100,000 people. Red Deer was originally incorporated as a city in 1913 when it was just a handful of homes and some trading posts. In a little over a hundred years, it has grown to become a thriving city with a decent economy.

What You Can See and Do in Red Deer

Red Deer has quite a few things to enjoy. Those who love spending time outdoors will find things to do all year long. Visit the Kerry Wood Nature Centre, which features a 5-kilometer trail, as well as hands-on exhibits. You can find plenty of areas to go hiking, canoeing, ice skating in the winter, and so much more.

Head to Fort Normandeau and experience some of the area’s history, visit the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery (the MAG), and head to the public market between May and Thanksgiving each year. This market was first started in 1906. Of course, you can also find some great places to dine, such as the Ranch House Restaurant and Bar, The Granary Kitchen, and Tribe.
