Edmunston is a rural community established in 1850 with a present day population of 23,500. The economy is supported by forestry and the paper industry. Some of the businesses important to the economy include IPL, which makes plastic utensils, and Pattison Signs, a plastics manufacturer. The city also has a hospital and two college campuses.

What You Can See and Do in Edmundston

The city has plenty of fun activities and attractions that residents are likely going to enjoy.

The Antique Automobile Museum in Edmundston features some beautiful antique cars and exhibits. It is generally open during the late spring and summer months. Some of the vehicles at the museum include a 1928 Ford Model A and a 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom.

One of the prime attractions is the Grey Rock Casino, where you will surely want to spend a bit of time. It features restaurants, as well as plenty of gaming options where you can try your luck.

You could golf 18 holes at the Fraser Edmundston Golf Club, spend some time exploring and fishing along the Madawaska River and other nearby bodies of water, or visit the Madawaska Historical Museum. This museum has two exhibition rooms: the Heritage Room which has themed exhibitions throughout the year; and Galerie Colline which features contemporary art.

As you can see, there are options in and around Edmundston that can please just about everyone no matter the time of year.

The community still has quite a bit of room for development, so if there isn’t something there that works for you now, there might be soon enough. For example, on January 1, 2023, the nearby community of Riviere-Verte was amalgamated with Edmundston. It is located just to the south of Edmundston, and it will add another small residential area, mostly made up of single-family properties of different sizes and types.

Getting Around in Edmundston

Edmundston is relatively small, which means it doesn’t have robust transportation options found in other cities. Those who live toward the centre of Edmundston can walk and cycle during warm months, or they might choose to drive if they have a vehicle.

The Trans-Canada Highway passes through the city, which will make getting out to other communities easy. Edmundston Airport is a municipal airport located 17 km north of the city.
