Fort La Reine Museum features 25 historic buildings that help recreate what life would have looked like in the past. Visitors will learn about what it was like to live there between 1738 and 1950.

Crescent Lake, which is right in the middle of the town, has given Portage La Prairie the nickname “Island on the Prairies”. On that island is Island Park, where you can hike, bike, and enjoy some of the festivals and events that take place there.

On those warm summer days, you can take the kids to Splash Island Water Park. It features a lazy river, slides, and more, making it the ideal place to beat the heat and have some fun!

Getting Around in Portage La Prairie

There isn’t much in the way of public transportation in Portage La Prairie, as most people walk, bike, or take their vehicles. The city is relatively small, and it doesn’t take long to get to most places on foot. Of course, those who need to travel further or outside of town will want a vehicle. If they don’t have a vehicle, there are taxis and shuttle services that can be hired.

The Portage Handi-Van is for those who are 55 and older or those who have mobility issues regardless of age. They operate Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
