Edmonton is the capital of Alberta and is located along the North Saskatchewan River. The population of the city is just over a million people as of 2021, but that population swells to 1.4 million when including the entire metropolitan population. This makes Edmonton the fifth-largest city (and sixth-largest metro area) in the nation.

The location of Edmonton has a long history. Fort Edmonton was established in 1795, and it was incorporated as a town in 1892. It is now a major economic centre with a host of large businesses making their home there.
